Aaron was a great member of the team who was constantly contributing story ideas and looking for ways to expand our web site’s readership and improve its quality. I also knew that no matter what the project, he’d be eager to take it on. I relied on him heavily (he managed a staff of freelance writers) and I trusted that he would always do his best because he engendered that trust.
When working on stories with Aaron, I could tell that he really cared about the final product. I could be tough at times and he would stand by his work, but not so stubbornly that he wasn’t willing to learn or work harder to expand the story and make it even better. Aaron was also willing to take on stories that went beyond his immediate beat/expertise. If he tried to pursue the topic and felt he was hitting a dead end, he wasn’t too proud to admit it and ask for guidance or help. To me, the desire to learn and grow is one every journalist should have, but unfortunately many don’t. Aaron always seemed to want to broaden his skills and improve his writing and I really admired and appreciated that in him.
